John McCann, born and raised in the South Bay by his single mom, is the current Mayor of Chula Vista. He has been elected a total of six times between school board, city council, and mayor.

John McCann is a decorated war veteran. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and later was commissioned as an Officer. He is now a Commander in the Navy Reserves.

Keep Our Water Clean
The sewage disaster originating in Tijuana continues to wreak havoc on our coastal communities, endangering public health, marine ecosystems, and the livelihoods of local businesses. Mayor McCann has been collaborating with officials at every level—local, state, and federal—to secure funding for critical infrastructure upgrades, demand accountability from those responsible, and advocate for lasting solutions to prevent toxic waste from polluting our waters. John believes South Bay deserves safe, clean beaches.
Protecting San Diego County
Mayor John McCann prioritizes public safety and is committed to ensuring law enforcement agencies have the tools they need to protect the community. He has championed increased funding for police and the Sheriff’s Department, reinforcing their ability to serve effectively. His decisive actions during Chula Vista’s wildfire emergencies have showcased his leadership in times of crisis.
Fiscal Responsibility
With a strong record of financial stewardship, McCann has played a key role in maintaining Chula Vista’s top-tier financial rating. He plans to bring his expertise to the Board of Supervisors, ensuring San Diego County’s budget remains balanced and taxpayer funds are managed responsibly.
Solutions for Homelessness
Taking a firm stance on addressing homelessness, McCann led the effort to establish one of the county’s strictest encampment bans. His leadership also brought the Otay Village Bridge Shelter to Chula Vista, creating a safe and stable environment for those transitioning into permanent housing.
Taking Care of Veterans
As a combat veteran himself, McCann is dedicated to supporting those who have served. He will push for expanded healthcare services, job training opportunities, and additional resources, ensuring veterans receive the benefits and assistance they have earned.
